What is the Stamford SX460?

The SX460 is a half-wave phase-controlled thyristor-type Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR). It forms an integral part of the excitation system for a brushless generator, designed to maintain stable output voltage by controlling the power fed to the exciter field.
How can I prevent voltage "hunting" (instability)?

Voltage hunting is addressed by adjusting the [STAB] (stability) control. Turning this potentiometer clockwise increases the damping effect to stabilize the voltage.
What safety precautions should be taken when adjusting AVR controls?

1.Always isolate the generator from energy sources and use lock-out/tag-out procedures before removing covers.
2.Use personal protective equipment, barriers, and insulated tools to prevent contact with live conductors.
3.Do not exceed the designed safe operating voltage specified on the alternator rating plate.
4.Do not ground any hand trimmer terminals, as they may be above earth potential.
